2019 Alejandro Premium South Australian Lagrein

COLOUR

Deep dark purple-red, with dark red hues

Black olives, black tea and dark fruits with toasted French oak

PALATE

Big, full-bodied with grippy tannins.

WINEMAKING

Grown on an organic vineyard in Barmera, these grapes thrive in the hot Riverland climate. Wine writer Max Allen describes Riverland Lagrein as a square peg in a round hole - growing so well have originated in the Italian Alps. Almost black with black tea aroma, dark fruits and spicy French oak, this mighty red is not for the faint-hearted.

FOOD PAIRING

Beef stew with speck, mushrooms, root vegetables and polenta.

VINTAGE NOTES 2019 Alejandro Lagrein

This vintage will be remembered as a hot and dry harvest. The season started with budburst occurring at the usual time, but a hot summer required exceptional irrigation management to nurture the vines to their full potential. Challenging climatic conditions were managed, which resulted in good to excellent wine quality.
